N level Sci Chem - The Periodic Table

Hi there!

Welcome to my blog.

This is my first post and I would like to give you a brief introduction on why I started this space.

I am a teacher, who is inspired to help students during this circuit breaker period. School closed, full HBL started and even the highly anticipated June holiday has been shifted forward and now we can only stay home (and should!).

I came across an article (Home-Based Learning blues) almost three weeks into the circuit breaker.

Some teenagers were shouldering responsibility of being a parent to their younger siblings, while their parents need to work during this circuit breaker.

They had juggle with their own academic and being a care-giver. And that is definitely not an easy feat, especially not for a child who is facing national examination in the coming months.

Hence, I decided to step up during this trying times.

I reflected on the time with my past graduating classes and decided the most time-consuming but essential to complete was going through the Ten Year Series (TYS) because they are authentic questions from the National Examination.

So I purchased Shing Lee Education (brown book with rainbow logo!) Chemistry Ten Years Series 2010-2019 and is using them to guide you in these videos.

So let's get started with the first set of videos!

This post aims to guide N level Science (Chemistry) students on the topic of The Periodic Table.

A short summary of popular questions:
  1. Trends in Group I - Alkali metals
  2. Trends in Group VII - Halogen
  3. Diatomic molecules
  4. Elements are placed in the same group because they have same number of valence electrons.
  5. The Periodic Table is a list of elements arranged in order of increasing proton (atomic) numbers.
The link to the videos are here:

I hope this revision guide will be useful to you.

Thank you.
